Built-in Color Changing Sequence

For a demonstration of simple effects (such as fixed color, color sequence and color wash), you do not need a controller. Each fixture is factory-set to ID = 1 as indicated on the lighted screen on the back of the array. (See illustration right for location of lighted screen.) If the ID is left as 1, the unit will begin to advance through a factory-set color sequence "demo".

Controlling Advanced Color Changing Effects

The LW36-CON controller is required to produce synchronous color changing mixes. Various preprogrammed user buttons make it easy to set specific colors and also types of color sequences with separate fade rates. The LW36-CON controller must remain connected to the set of LED Wall Washers it is controlling.

For more advanced and/or customized lighting control, the LED Wall Washer can be connected to any standard USITT DMX 512 controller (such as Enttec controllers, Sunlite DMX software dongle kit, etc.) allowing the LED Wall Washer to be integrated into any type of automated or programmed light show. The adapter cable LW36-XLR3 is required to connect the LW36 Wall Washer's signal cable to XLR3 equipment.

DMX 512 products typically interface with either 5 pin or 3 pin XLR3 type connectors. Regardless of whether it is a 3 pin or a 5 pin system, the pin configurations for DMX 512 are standard on pins 1, 2 and 3:

Understanding DMX

DMX stands for Digital Multiplex. DMX is a universal protocol for transmitting data on multiple channels over a single cable. There are 512 possible "channels" that are sent out from a DMX 512 console controller.

Imagine a cable TV service that sends out signals for 512 channels. By selecting one channel to watch, the "cable box" separates all the channel signals and delivers only the desired channel to the TV. Like a cable TV service, a DMX controller console will send up to 512 channels over a cable. A dimmer or an intelligent fixture such as the LED Wall Washer, which is designed to operate with USITT (ESTA) standard DMX 512 controllers, is capable of receiving several control channels at once. By giving the fixture an "ID" (like setting a TV to a desired channel), that fixture will decode the signal and output only the desired effect.

DMX Address Settings

All fixtures should be given a DMX starting address (also known as an "ID") so that the correct fixture responds to the correct control signal. This digital starting address is the channel number at which the fixture starts to "listen" to the DMX control information sent out from the DMX controller.

The back of the LED Wall Washer has an LCD screen that displays the ID of the fixture (see image below). To change the ID, press the UP or DOWN button adjacent to the LCD display. Addressing multiple fixtures with the same ID will make those fixtures do the same lighting scenes at the same time.

Typically, various IDs are separated by three DMX channels to aid in future revisions and/or additions. For example:
