BINA S~08 linear lighting system

A specification-grade extruded linear family in ten profile widths from just under an inch to nearly six, in suspended, surface, recessed and direct mount, with nine light distributions and six diffuser options. Priced and supplied by Brand Lighting on projects across South Florida.

What the S~08 actually is

The S~08 is BINA Company’s extruded linear family. One profile, engineered so that the same detail can run suspended down a corridor, turn and continue surface-mounted across a soffit, then recess into a slot without the joint reading as a change of product. That is the point of it: continuity of detail across mounting conditions, in straight and curved runs.

It is a specification product rather than a catalogue item. Almost everything about a run — width, height, distribution, optic, colour temperature, control protocol, finish, length — is chosen at order. Two S~08 jobs rarely share a part number.

The S~08 in finished spaces

These are BINA Company project photographs. They show what the same extrusion does across five different geometries. Every one of them is a made-to-order run rather than a catalogue item, which is why the shape is the specification.

Shape families

The S~08 order code starts with a shape family. This is the decision that drives everything downstream, because the family determines how the extrusion is cut, curved and joined before any of the electrical selections matter.

  • RING. Closed curved shapes. ARC an arc, CIR a circle, ELP an ellipse, EYE an ellipse with one angled corner, OVL an oval.
  • POLY. Closed straight-sided shapes of three sides or more, specified by width and length.
  • FREE. Free form. Drawn to your sketch or drawing; the factory needs the overall size and the radius of each turn.
  • MULT. Multiple shapes. IS for single shapes hung as a set, CS for shapes physically connected by special corners.
  • LINE. LN for straight linear runs, LR for linear runs with radius sections worked into them.

Corner detail is specified separately: RD for a rounded corner with its radius, AC for an angled corner, SC for a special corner detailed on the drawing, and RE for rounded ends. Where connected shapes intersect, BINA publishes A, E, B, Y, K, C, X, F and S intersection corners.

Profile sizes

Ten widths, running from just under an inch to a little under six, with correlating heights. BINA describes the range as one inch to six inches in both width and height.

Light distribution

Nine distributions, which is where the family earns its keep on architectural work. Up/down and front/back allow the lumen split per side to be specified independently — useful when a suspended run has to wash a ceiling without over-lighting the desk below.

  • UD — up and down, lumens customisable per side
  • IN — inside light
  • OT — outside light
  • IO — inside and outside
  • FL — frontlit
  • BL — backlit

Optics and diffusers

  • D1 — polycarbonate diffused opal
  • S2 — soft diffused

Output, colour and efficacy

Figures below are BINA’s published S~08 profile data. Actual output depends on the channel and configuration chosen, so treat the range as the envelope and confirm the specific build on the cut sheet before it goes on a schedule.

  • Power. The profile series runs 10W to 720W. The Solid series runs 10W to 794W. Both figures are the driver envelope, not a single fixture.
  • Efficacy. High lumen packages up to 150 lumens per watt. BINA publishes delivered efficacy of 89 to 100 lumens per watt for the Solid series.
  • Colour temperature. 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K. Tunable white 2700K to 6500K, warm dim 3000K down to 1800K, RGB and RGBW are also published.
  • CRI. 80, 90 or 95.
  • Voltage. All drivers are universal 120V to 277V, integral or remote.
  • Emergency. Backup option gives 1.5 hours at 30 percent of light output.
  • Listing and warranty. ETL listed by Intertek, five year warranty.

BINA does not publish a rated life figure on either cut sheet. If a schedule needs an L70 or L90 hour count, we will ask the factory in writing and send you their answer rather than quote a number here.

Controls and dimming

0–10V dims to 1 per cent, which matters on hospitality and residential work where a linear run has to disappear rather than sit at a visible floor.

S~08 Solid, the filled version

The S~08 has a second family. Where the standard series is a hollow profile drawn as an outline, S~08 Solid is a filled panel in a custom shape, illuminated from the front, the back, or both faces at once. It carries its own order code and its own cut sheet.

  • Round shapes. RD round, HF half round with a specified radius, CD cloud, EP ellipse, EY eye, OV oval.
  • Polygon shapes. TR triangle, SQ square, RT rectangle, DI diamond, HX hexagon.
  • Other shapes. FS fish, AM amoeba, BO boomerang, MN moon, and special shapes from a sketch or drawing.
  • Channel height. 3 inch or 4 inch standard, or custom in inches. A flange or a channel lip can be added after the height.
  • Mounting. Suspended on aircraft cable or stem, surface mounted direct or on stems, recessed into drywall, or recessed into grid.
  • Distribution. Direct down and frontlit, indirect up and backlit, or front and back together.
  • Lens. D1 opal diffused polycarbonate, P1 micro-prismatic, P3 diffused prismatic.
  • Finish. White, black, silver, gold, a RAL number, or a special finish.

Standard Solid power is 10W to 200W giving roughly 1,000 to 20,000 total lumens, with higher wattage drivers available. Where a shape is lit on both faces, lumens are specified per side.

The acoustic variant

S~08 Acoustic shares the same specification as the standard profile and adds a felt body. Worth knowing on open-plan offices and restaurants where the lighting layout and the acoustic treatment are competing for the same ceiling.

  • Thickness: 9mm to 12mm
  • NRC: 0.8
  • Material: 100% polyethylene terephthalate (PET), at least 50% post-consumer recycled content

Where it gets specified

The S~08 turns up where a linear detail has to hold across changing ceiling conditions — corridors that become lobbies, soffits that become slots, curved runs that would otherwise need a different product at every transition.

Photometric files

BINA has independent photometry for the circular profile rings, tested by Viso and issued 12 December 2025. We host the set below so you can drop it straight into AGi32, Visual, DIALux or Revit without waiting on a rep to email it.

  • 21 files. IESNA LM-63-2002 format, all measured at 80 CRI and 4000K.
  • Four profiles. 40x60, 50x60, 60x60 and 80x80.
  • Diameters. 440mm through 1200mm.
  • Load. 14W at the smallest ring through 113W at the largest.

One file in BINA’s set is named 49K where the header and the rest of the series read 40K. It is a filename typo on the 60x60 900mm 57W ring, not a different colour temperature. We have left BINA’s filenames untouched so they match anything the factory sends you, but flag it here so nobody schedules a 4900K product that does not exist.

Shapes outside the circular set are made to order and photometry is issued per project. Send us the geometry and we will ask for it.

What we need to quote it

Because nearly every attribute is chosen at order, a rough enquiry cannot be priced. Send whatever you have of the following and we will come back with a takeoff rather than a guess.

  • Total run length, and where the breaks and corners fall
  • Mounting condition for each run — suspended, surface, recessed or direct
  • Profile width, or the ceiling detail it has to sit in if the width is still open
  • Distribution and whether up and down need different lumen levels
  • Colour temperature, CRI and control protocol
  • Finish, and whether the acoustic body is wanted
  • Ceiling height and cable or stem length

Common questions about the S~08

Is the S~08 a magnetic track system?

No. The S~08 is BINA’s extruded linear profile family. BINA’s magnetic track systems are the Attrakt range — Attrakt H2O, Elf, Scotch, Pipes, Catwalk, Element, Lithe, LINX and Slim. The two get confused because both are BINA and both are linear, but they solve different problems: the S~08 is a fixed architectural run, Attrakt is a reconfigurable track.

Can the S~08 do curves?

Yes. BINA publishes both straight and curved options, which is a large part of why the family is specified at all — a curved run that keeps the same profile and diffuser as the straight sections is difficult to achieve by combining products.

How small can it dim?

To one per cent on 0–10V. Triac/ELV, DALI and DMX are also available, as is a non-dimmable build.

Where can Brand Lighting supply the S~08?

Is there an acoustic version?

Yes. S~08 Acoustic carries the same lighting specification and adds a PET felt body, 9mm to 12mm thick, rated NRC 0.8, with at least half the material from post-consumer recycled content.

Are IES files available for the S~08?

Yes. We host BINA’s Viso tested set of 21 IES files for the circular profile rings, covering 40x60 through 80x80 profiles from 440mm to 1200mm diameter at 80 CRI and 4000K. They are on this page under Downloads. Shapes outside that set get photometry issued per project, so send us the geometry and we will request it.

What is the difference between the S~08 and the S~08 Solid?

The standard S~08 is a hollow profile drawn as an outline, so you read the shape as a lit line. The S~08 Solid is a filled panel cut to a custom shape and lit from the front, the back or both faces. They are separate order codes with separate cut sheets, both linked under Downloads.

How large can a single S~08 run be?

BINA states the profile can be curved to almost any radius with little to no limitation on size. In practice the constraints are the shipping split, the number of suspension points and the driver load, which is why the factory works from your drawing. Send us the ceiling plan and we will come back with how it wants to be broken up.
